A Reunion: BBQ Party

Around 20++ ex-batu lintang kids come to Pn Pow huz for a BBQ party.

Well, all of us have been together for at least 1 and a half years, some even for 7 years. We have shared evey moment of joy, sweet and sour experiences together. I feel that my life is meaningful, because of my friends, you.

I still remember when I was form 1 kid, I was a shy person. I do not talked to guys( how about girls?haha, dun even think about it). I felt lonely, but that is ok because I  am so used to it when I was in primary schoo

I have no idea what I had in my mind that time. But what I do clearly know about is that there are people that are willing to become my friends. They talked to me, even given me a nickname "Ah NGU". At first, I was angry because nobody has ever done this to me. But slowly, I began to understand that a nickname is only given to their special one (close friends, maybe closer).

That is the time when I start changing....

Back to the party, special thanks to Pn Pow for letting us to gather at her house . Although she did not give us any ang pow( she did mention no ang pow for her students), she had given us probably the best ang pow we ever received --- friendship. Here, there are no teachers or prefects. Just friends.

We had the feast. Marinated chicken wings, lamb meat , hotdog, spagetti , friend mee hoon, curry chicken.......... They are delicious too. Well, is not easy to convince Pn Pow to cook some dishes for us. She did mention that we could not comment her dishes (her dishes are spagetti , friend mee hoon, curry chicken), but she did not say we cannot post our comment on our blog. There is only one word to describe -- superduperdelicious.

Burn burn burn!!

Friends at first sight (Pn Pow's daugters' friends)

Hehe, superduperdelicious spagetti

Thanx for the memories~

well, after 2weeks or so.. we stopped our business.. don get me wrong, we stopped because we are out of stock not because we are giving up on our business!

To all the teachers in Batu Lintang,
thanx for your supports..it's a very good feeling to have a group of great teachers backing us up! hope the six of us had not been a very big trouble in class.. hahaha..

To all the teachers & prefects in Arang Road,
i thank u for ur support too! it's been great doing business with u guys.. the prefects board run things in an efficient way.. and very experienced in dealing with businessman too.. a big clap for you~

To all our friends and family,
although i mention u last, it does not mean u r least important.. honestly, we got our greatest support from u guys.. though some of our fren's mom have bought cookies, still they wont let their friends down and ordered from us.. we really appreciate it!

To the friendly neighbourhood burget stall,
it's great to have a place which serves great burgers just in front of our eyes.. whenever we are hungry, we can easily munch on something delicious...

ok now, to those of you who are wondering whether our business make a profit or not.. i'll say yes.. not a lot but good enough for first timers.. =)
besides money, experiences in doing business is a precious thing too.. i think a big problem of us is that we are not good in promoting yet.. for example we'll juz let the customer decide to buy or not when he/she is in a dilemma.. i think a good promoter would have persuaded the customer to buy.. and we got a little confused when handling stock and money.. guess we were not sistematic enough.. problems are bound to happen when things are not done properly.. so 1 or 2 who ordered from us didnt get 1 order(cookies) from us.. we are really sorry..

as for being cheated by the tauke, it's weird hor a bunch of form sixers, who received high education yet we are being cheated.. sigh, it's a shame.. but we are very determined not to let anyone do it on us again.. as for the tauke, what goes around comes around, one day it'll be his turn.. i'm not cursing him ok.. just saying what i feel..

to my partners, hope i didnt let u guys down too.. it's been great working together.. and to all our customers, hope we didnt do too bad a job.. =)

Day + Uknown: A Letter

Dear Readers:

It has been many days that we did not write to you, and we are sorry about that. We have been busy all this while.

Well, on the last few days before Chinese New Year, we have to manage 2 stalls. One stall belongs to us, the others is the one selling Ba Gua. I am kind of surprise that Ba Kua has to closed down for a day because Ba Gua is out of stock. The owner of the Ba Kua stall keep looking for new products. I guess it must be the economy meltdown and caused the factory do not want to produce Ba Kua. Well, they were wrong. Because economy for Ba Kua is always good (from what we have seen)

And our stall at Stutong Jaya, we never actually go there and set up a stall. So, I guess for those friends who look for us at Stutong Jaya, we are sorry.

To the SMK Arang's prefects Board, thanks for waiting for me to deliver the goods. I was told to deliver the goods to Arang school by 6:45am. Unfortunately I woke up only at 7:15am. I was shocked and stunned. I rushed to prepare myself and skip my breakfast, and rushed to school
During the way to Arang School, I am worried. I just do not know how to describe myself. A guy who break promises?

To my surprise, they waited for me. I reached at the school gate at 7:40am. I expect myself to be scolded by them. But they din't. They just want to get things done. I explain to them and apologised to them. They just jokes at me and has been friendly to me. Thx ya and sorry again X 100.

And about our stall in Tabuan Jaya. Guess we have been "eaten' by the shop owner, Mr Boon. The Ba Kua stall's rent is RM 260, but they charged us RM 350. We tried to negotiate the price but he rejects us. Maybe we are young and first timer, and he took advantage of us. Well, there is no second time, we promised.

We got special delivery service Ooo

Ba Gua Stall, but selling Popiah

Haha, we use their place to sell

Day +11 : Just Another Day

Another day 0f yesterday. Just that more fun and more work to do.

We have secure a "contract", our neighbor who sell Ba Gua decided to let us work for them during afternoon. With few days left before Chinese New Year, she want to open her stall during afternoon. Unfortunately, she can't because she has to get her main job done. So, by the time she come to her stall,it is already 6pm.

So, we have a discussion and we decided that we run the stall until evening before she take over. And she pay us certain amount of money.

There are people who are asking what happen to our stall at Stutong Jaya Wet Market. Well, it is long story and it is also a mistake to set up a stall there. That place is an "ghost" town during nightime. I am not sure when will this improving, but we do thought of setting a stall there for at least once when the time is right.

Day +10 :A New Opportunity

When one door closed, another door will open.

It is a sunny Sunday morning. We have a emergency meeting at Min Huang's House located at Tabuan Jaya. We discuss about our future operations and problems.

Soon after that, we have our Laksa at Thomson Corner there. Well, I have been eating laksa there for quite some time. And I must tell you, I love their laksa.

The laksa's soup here are different from others. Here, it is not that spicy but it is very tasty. With RM 3.50 a bowl, you can actually fill up your stomach. The laksa here have fresh prawns and clawns, some shredded fried eggs and chicken meat.

Soon after taking lunch, we are open to business. Our stall is decreased in size. And we are selling Popiah and 年糕. Of course, we do have some tidbits and snacks. You could visit here to find out our products

The popiah here is very nice, it is filled with samba and sardine. And it is delicious too.

So,if you need popiah and 年糕, remember to pay us a visit.

RM 3,50 laksa

The difference between RM 3.5 and RM 4.50

Our stall after "diet"

Our Product: Popiah
(Comes in 120g for RM 6.50 and 250g for RM 12.50)

NEW!! 年糕 RM 2.50 each

Day+9 : Kuchingnites, we have a problem

Friends, we have a problem, and it is a serious problem.

We sold most of the cookies to our friends, and when we want to order a second batch of goods, the suppliers told us that they could not handle that much of order. We were stunned.

How are we going to continue our business if we do not have cookies to sell?

Nobody knows what to do. Our orders exceed our goods. And we have to beg our suppliers to produce some more cookies just to fill the demands. Unfortunately, it is still not enough. We have to ask suk thin and andrew to give up their cookies. We have try our best to fulfill every orders. We tried......

We ask ourselves : Are we going to continue the business?we still have one week to go.

Yes, we are going to continue. We still have something to sell. We still got snacks and tidbits. If not, we could always come out with something. The weather might be bad, it might be raining the whole day, but that is not going to stop us.

Yes, we will continue, not because we want to earn more, but because we do this for our friends. We give our stalls and cookies name : 友缘 for a reason, that is ------- You, MY FRIENDS.

We want to do something, something that we could hold our sweet memories together when we are 75 years old while waiting for the judgment day. We want to tell our sons and daughter stories about our friends, and the great things they have done for us. We want to appreciate what our friends have give us.

You, have been with us when we need you the most.
You, have been spending time with us, telling us some cold jokes when we are sad.
You, have treated us like we are the Chosen One, that we feel loved by you( although you will never ever admit)
You, are the reason we are continue doing this.

The world is a better place because of Your presence.

And Yes Yes Yes, we are ready!!

Day +8: Bobby and Shentel

Today's post has nothing to do with 友缘。

Today is a great day for Bobby Ting (Ting Pek King's son) and Shentel Lee (someone else daughter), for they are now husband and wife.

Shentel Lee is a gorgeous woman. She has big eyes, nice hairstyle and a pretty face. One less pretty girl available. Haizzzz..... About Bobby, I dun want to describe him. Like father like son.

Well, they told us to come to the Four Points Hotel(the one near Airport, BDC highway) at 6:30pm which we did although we know that dinner is going to start much later. The hotel is just only halfway finish, with dust filled all over the carpark(they did have a clean area but that is for VIP(like mercedenz, BMW, my wira can't get in"

They managed to finish the building, but only first and 2nd floor are furnished with sofa, light bulbs and decorations. I guess the 3rd floor and above are only covered with cements.

We are required to wait outside a ballroom until they told us to get in. To my surprise, they have very pleasant customer service. They prepared varies type of sushi, satays and Beijing "Kao Ya"(means BBqued duck) in buffet style. Their satays and Beijing Kao ya is delicious, while the sushi is just standard.

Besides, they do offer drinks such as Oranges, red and white wines, cola and 100 plus. We can take whatever we want. Here I try some red wine which is bitter and no taste at all. But when I drink it, I can feel relax and easy. Perhaps that is the reason why many of us drink wine.

The guest are all in their best attire. Some woman/girls are very ”暴露“ which I cannot elaborate more due some of the readers are still underage according to Malaysian Law.

We told ourselves not to eat too much, not because we are full, but because we thought that the food during the dinner must be very nice. After all, the family of Ting can build a hotel, and they must be able to supply us good meals.

The dinner start at 9pm( I wonder why they lied to us by stating that we are require to reach by 6:30pm., maybe milionnare like to fool normal citizens like me).

However, ”期望越高,失望越大“。They only supply each of us with 3 dishes. The name of the dishes is so long but food is so few. I could hardly fill my stomach full with these main dishes.

When I told my friends about the buffet style before we have our main dishes. They blame me for not inviting them. Because they can actually come and enjoy the good

Free orange juice (behind are red wine)

Here we can get satay and sushi, yummy~

Tasty, isn't it?

Inside the ballroom, 100 tables(1 table for 12 ppl)

First dish, very long name, start with Chicken ^@!@!(!@&!@@*!)*#*@) salad

Our second Dish, which has no taste at all

This one is delicious, unfortunately only a little

Day +7 : Here Comes the Rain again...

after yesterday's good business.. we were more hopeful today.. but unfortunately.. the weather did not side us.. it rained for almost the whole day.. reducing the customers as less people were willing to come out from their warm home in a rainy day..nonetheless, we tried our best to attend to those who came by to have a look at our cookies.. but too bad.. business was just very low..

anyway.. me n min huang went to school this morning too.. to promote our products to teachers and school mates.. we were very lucky because a few teacher that we met all bought from us.. quantity is not a problem but we appreciate that they supported us although they had ordered cookies from others.. for example pn.teresa, she said she ordered a total of 300 pineapple tarts from 3 different people already yet she still order some from us.. Pn.Kee ,Miss Ko and Cikgu Susie were very supportive too.. thank you teachers.. =) while we were at dewan waiting for teachers to pass by.. there was a parent which were attracted by our cookies samples and bought from us too.. hahahaha.. we didnt even promote to her.. wow.. we were a bit surprised! then while i was dealing with this parent.. the form 3s who had just finish school, curiosly watched me and in the end, two ordered cookies from us.. yuhooo~ and hou yun drop by to visit us too.. and stayed for quite a long time.. hehe..

on the other hand, while we were packing stuff later that night, preparing to go home.. we found that a big sheet of plastic that we used it to cover the tables n chairs is missing.. the same situation happened to our neighbour, who is selling bak gua.. it's impossible that the strong wind blew the plastic away because we used chairs to weight it.. as for our neighbour, they used bricks to weight the plastic.. we were all suspecting the tauke for stealing our plastics.. but it's just a guess.. anyway, hope that thing's like this will never happen again lar.. if not, sooner or later all our tables and chairs will be gone too..=.=

Day +6: We feel Good

It is the sixth day we are open to business. And we have feelings that our business is right on track. We got a couple more orders from friends and relatives.

The weather today is nice, and I am glad that our friend Irene's Batik Kek has so far received good response for customers. So friends, if you ever consider Batik Kek, try irene's one. It is delicious. We would like to offer our gratitude to our customers, friends for their unconditional support.

We were amazed when we saw Miss Ko and Pn Teng this evening. Although they do not say anything about us, but I am sure that they must be proud of us(Hehehe). And we accidentally sawNatalie and her sister, with Natalie say once a famous phrase during War World 2: "I will return" (general Mac Arthur said this when he left Philiphines during japanese invasion)

And we have new products to introduce: Popiah made by Andrew's neighbour. Well, it is different from others stall. It is sardine flavoured and it is delicious. I will upload some picture about the popiah soon.

Closing our Stall (surprisingly we took only 8 min)

Day +5 : Business improving!!

well.. the day finally came! we manage to sell a few unit of the cookies to total strangers.. n two to jing jing's family! we were so so happy when the customers nodded their heads, agreeing to buy our products.. a big grin on everyone's faces!! and we have new products to sell too.. Batik Cake.. homemade too by our dearly friend, irene! samples are available at our stall.. all are welcomed to drop by to have a taste of our new 'recruit'..

as usual, i reached our stall before 5pm and ready to set up the stall.. but i found something strange.. our canvas was not at where it supposed to be.. it's opened somehow and i found out that one of the strings used to tie the canvas was cut.. i was furious! it's not in a condition whereby someone played a prank on us.. but signs showed that it's being used by some unauthorised party.. my guess was the tauke of the shop that rent us the place.. maybe they needed our canvas to block the rain.. i'm not saying that they cant borrow stuff from us.. but at least u used it in a proper way.. without cutting the strings.. why on earth do u have to cut the string?? every healthy human being is gifted with two hands and 10 fingers which are meant to help you solve problems.. a simple knot.. a live knot.. is so damn easy to open..and i'm sure it wont take a long time to open a knot.. nonetheless, some people are just to lazy and ignorant!

ok.. no more about the bad tauke.. let's talk about the unexpected guests that dropped by tonight.. firstly, i received a call from ray.. which is quite unusual.. he was asking me the location of our stall.. which he wished to drop by later.. wow.. honestly i'm surprised.. but thanks ray!! it's very nice of you to drop by.. even though we didnt manage to persuade you to buy some cookies.. sigh.. next.. jerren was here too.. he was very kind to treat all 6 of us drinks.. but i guessed he was quite busy.. so only stayed for a while.. then, my parents dropped by too.. i had no idea they were going to come.. and the last special guests will be jing's family...and they bought cookies from us too.. wow.. it's good to have lots fo friends..

Ray eating Da Fah Cod Fish Shredded Tidbits

thank you all for your support.. no matter if it's mental support or buying cookies from us.. it's great to have you guys around! cheers~~

oya, we are facing great temptations each night when we are opened.. it's very very hard to resist this delicious temptations.. the famous burger stall is just in front of us.. less than 5 feet away.. owh~ the smell of the burgers are so intriguing.... yum..yum..

Day +4 : Nothing Unusual

This morning, we decided to pay a visit to our school, SMK Batu Lintang. Rumors has it that our school toilet is 4 stars or 5 star so we decide to give it a try. Besides, we would like to meet some teachers and to promote our products with them

We did manage to meet Mr Chai, Pn Pao, Pn Luk and Pn Sng. We met Miss Ko too, and she asked us whether we are on duty or not. We just smile at her. After that, she left for her duty as usual.

Well, we did not tell her that we are here to look for some kids that go against us during our prefect time, it is time to revenge. Fui Lip once told us a funny true story when he was a prefect:

Fui Lip is working at the kantin, then he saw a few boys playing with tins, kicking it without knowing where is their goal(I suppose if it is own goal also they dun know). Fui Lip stop them by "pijak" the tin and accidentally pijak their shoes as well. The guy whose shoes kena "pijak" stared at Fui Lip and "pijak" back Fui Lip shoes. He ran away after saying "You pijak my shoes and I pijak back your shoes". The~~. The kid must be cute to come out with that kind of reason.

Anyway, after received orders from teachers, we have our next stop -- the Spring to look for present for our Friend that I mentioned in Day +2.

We are opened to business at around 5pm at Tabuan Jaya and 7pm at Stutong Jaya. However, we only sell tidbits and snacks at Stutong Jaya. Poor business performance due to small "population" at stutong Jaya force us to close our stall early at Stutong Jaya.

We too experienced some very weird customers. This family of six came to our stall and ask for sample. Imagine they have six people, six sample gone in just minutes. Then, they go to the next stall which sell "ah gua", ops, is "Ba Kua" and eat the free sample. We were like ......... speechless.

The weather is quite nice

Suk Thin busy promoting..

Day +3 : Offday

We closed our stall for today only due to heavy rain and some area in Kuching are flooded. Bau is flooded, Jalan Mendu (Near Trinity Methodist Church) is flooded as well.

Seem so many area is flooded, we decide to have a day off. Same goes to today's post.

Day +2: Someone stop the RAIN

It is a rainy season, rain rain until we want to cry. With some cold jokes from Andrew, every time when we were hit by rain drops, he will said that is his sweat.

Not much difference today if compared to yesterday. Is just that we have one friends visiting us, Eric Tan . We were so touched because Eric just undergo surgery(kneel part I think) and he walk to us and say "Hi". Well, I guess we dun have pay him a visit(which we plan to).

We are so bored during afternoon, not much people are going out to shop due to the heavy rain. And the rain is expected to last until next week. Haiz.....

Suddenly, Fui Lip mentioned that we are doing more on talking to friends rather than "jagaing" the stall. I guess he is right. We spent 80% of our time talking about varies issues, with most of them about our school mates. Mr A used to chased Miss B but fail becoz........ We were thrilled by the stories becoz it really get us exited. Knowing our friends past stories is fun, and interesting.

Due to heavy rain, we decided to close our stall earlier. We went to Xiang Xiang(Tabuan Jaya) for some supper. Seems the night is young, we plan to go somewhere else. Here is the problem : We do not know where to go. If you ask 6 of us, they will just reply "随便“.There is no such place as "随便“ in Kuching.

Maybe next time when we plan to open a restoren, we named it" 随便餐厅”. When people ask their friends :Where do you want to go? , "随便". Then we will have this group of customers.

The "blue white red"tent we set on our own.
